Uplifting Filipino Migrants Amid Change
Faced with the deepening insecurity surrounding Filipino migrants in Canada—especially in light of the government’s abrupt reductions to immigration levels and critical changes to caregiver and temporary worker programs—this UPAABC initiative emerges as a powerful act of care and collective resistance.
UPAABC is undertaking a year-long, community-led project to uplift Filipino voices, build solidarity, and spark policy advocacy grounded in lived experience. With international students, caregivers, seasonal workers, and other temporary residents at risk of falling through the cracks of shifting immigration laws, this initiative offers a safe and empowering space for connection, support, and strategic organizing.
Through a series of inclusive community gatherings, Filipino migrants across BC will come together to share stories, build networks of trust, and develop informed strategies for pushing policy change at both provincial and federal levels. By centering care, resilience, and unity, the project paves a path toward policy that reflects the dignity and strength of Filipino migrant communities.
Very good organization of the event; the topic was very timely (in response to immigration policy changes and Lapu-Lapu Day Festival attack). The theme Tulay at Gabay is very comforting, you feel you’re not alone, it brings hope, it brings a sense of community and demonstrates valuing families.
The volunteers and the entire UPAABC are so welcoming and generous of their resources to support our community -- temporary residents population. The speakers have a wealth of information to share in one gathering!
