The University of the Philippines Alumni Association in British Columbia (UPAABC) wrapped up 2025 with a powerful demonstration of pagmamalasakit (compassion). On December 28, 2025, our community gathered for the 7th annual outreach at The Door is Open.
Impact by the Numbers
- 210 Meals Served: Featuring a hearty menu of pasta with meat sauce, chicken strips, and buttered bread.
- 30 Volunteers: A multi-generational effort involving members from Generations X, Y, and Z.
- 200 Blessing Bags: Distributed to our underprivileged brethren in the Downtown Eastside.
Our efforts caught the attention of the wider community, and we are proud to share that Omni News covered the event, helping to raise vital awareness for the needs of the Downtown Eastside.
While the meals were served on December 28, the preparation began much earlier through the overwhelming support of our community. This project’s record-breaking success was only possible because of the synergy between our multi-generational volunteers and our dedicated sponsors.
